Huh? They were 2 years too late for a start. Not knowing what SOAs are, I still find it difficult to fathom how any technology could seriously be put forward as a solution to human avarice and stupidity. How would SOAs have prevented the financial…

I recommend SQL Server Central

SQL Server Central is a very good Web Site for anyone interested in learning more :-
http://www.sqlservercentral.com/

For example, here's an excellent article about using the Metadata stored in the System Catalogues to find information about tables, indexes and so on in a Database :-

SOA in today's global credit crunch

Today I went to a Conference in London on Service-Oriented-Architectures (courtesy of a free ticket from the organisers because I am a Speaker for them).
It was remarkable how all the Speakers were saying that SOA was the cure to all the problems of the global credit crunch !!!

Especially when we all know that starting an SOA Project is an expensive deal.

Any comments ?

Hi Barry,
As someone new to all .My queries was not to answer the Assignment, it’s just a dream that I have and that I want to achieve. I'm not trying to get homework help. The thing is, I just really want to do this thing perfectly & of course enter into the world of programmers.

And since I wish to use a combination of languages such as PHP, SQL & possible VB of which I have no I dea about, I wish you could help me in designing an access for the police departments showing the relationships between the tables and their querries. This shall be used a reference in designing other databases.

As someone new to all of this (with a teaching background in English and History), I'm curious...what were some of the primary reasons the speakers at the SOA conference had for stating that SOA was the panacea? How does this tie to healthy credit practices? Seems to me the sub-prime mortgage lending crisis that helped get us to this place had nothing to do with good or poor system designs: it had to do with greed and opportunism. Now that we're in it, how does SOA represent a solution? Puzzling....

The links you provided for the e-r model examples were fine--I just had to decrease the font size on my browser to get the whole links to display. Many thanks.
